Let's get crafty today with a shirt upcycle! Find yourself a shirt (or any other fabric article) and let's get started.
Here's what you'll need:
*If you purchase any of your supplies through the links below, I receive a small commission as an Amazon affiliated partner
Any old article of clothing or fabric large enough to cover your box (and lid, if including)
Modge Podge (or any fabric glue)
Bowl of water
Any trim or accessories (optional)
*If you are using a lid, make sure your fabric isn't too bulky- otherwise the lid won't fit!
Either using a pencil to trace or by eyeballing it, allow enough excess to fold over the edges and cut your fabric to fit your box and lid. It's easiest to cover round and oddly shaped boxes by cutting a length of fabric long enough to wrap around the entire box and then paint or affix a bottom piece of fabric separately.
Brush Modge Podge generously to your box. Rinse your brush in your bowl of water when complete and set aside.
Wrap the box and lid with your fabric, smoothing any wrinkles as you go. You'll have excess fabric left to be wrapped around the lip of your edges.
Apply Modge Podge to the excess edges of your fabric pieces and rinse the brush in your bowl of water when complete.
Fold the edges of your fabric over the lip of your box and lid, pressing to seal.
You can use any embellishments or accessories to decorate with once your box has dried overnight.
Ta-da! You can make a set of these or just one and it is a great way to upcycle outgrown clothing or to cover outdated decorative storage. You can use any article of fabric, too-- tablecloths, curtains, etc.
