Repairing a Bent Ring

As long as the ring is made from gold or another soft metal, it's an easy fix to make it round again if it's bent out of shape. Gold is pliable and the higher the content of gold in your ring, the more pliable it is. This is a good thing when it comes time to repair, but it also means these rings tend to need to be reshaped more frequently.

Here's a quick video tutorial on how I reshape precious metal rings:

Tips:

  • Only tap the band with the mallet; designs and gemstones can break if you hit them

  • The ring will be the size it was before if you tap it down the mandrel just until it's snug

  • Make sure your mandrel is round (some of them have straight edges on the front or back)
